Curricula
We have developed two in-depth curriculum programs to help your students make cross-curricular connections through art. These programs include a lesson packet which teachers can complete with students, followed by three visits with a professional artist to help students create their own artwork.
Symbols: Emblems of Our Culture and Ourselves (3-12)
Draw connections between Adinkra cloths of Ghana and American quilts and discover how they both are rich in symbolism and patterns of their cultures. Teachers will receive a lesson packet designed to make connections between West African and American art. At the end of the lessons, students will work with a professional artist to create their own Adinkra stamp and quilt-inspired piece. Additional $300 fee to have students artwork synthesized into art quilt for school.
Cost: $700 for up to 32 students, $300 for each additional class
Black Mountain Clay Curriculum (K-12)
Learn about ceramics and clay artists through an interdisciplinary learning experience. Teachers will receive a lesson packet designed to approach ceramics through a variety of different curriculum areas. At the end of the lessons, students will work with a professional artist to create their own clay pieces. Cost includes loan of books and DVDs about clay.
