Our artist-in-residence programs offer an unforgettable experience for you and your students. We will send a professional artist to your school to work directly with students to create an installation piece for the school and/or individual pieces to take home. Choose from one of these exciting residencies:
Create Your Own Artist-in-Residence Program (K-12) .
Work with KMAC staff to design your own in-school residency with a professional artist. Is there a theme or topic you would like to explore through art? We will work with you to craft a project around your specific needs.
Cost: $2,500. 4-8 sessions per class, up to 4 classes
Printmaking-based Artist-in-Residence Program (K-12)
Possible projects may incorporate relief printing, intaglio, monoprinting, and silkscreening.
Cost: $2,500. 4-8 sessions per class, up to 4 classes.
Mixed Media Artist-in-Residence Program (K-12)
Possible projects may incorporate found objects, upcycling, and other mixed media techniques.
Cost: $2,500. 4-8 sessions per class, up to 4 classes.
Fiber-based Artist-in-Residence Program (K-12)
Possible projects may incorporate weaving, fabric dying, sewing, embroidery, felting, and other fiber techniques.
Cost: $2,500. 4-8 sessions per class, up to 4 classes.
Traditional Craft Artist-in-Residence Program (K-12)
Create art inspired by traditional Kentucky and Appalachian crafts. Possible projects may incorporate basketry, weaving, gourd art, clay, wood, and other materials.
Cost: $2,500. 4-8 sessions per class, up to 4 classes.
Symbols: Emblems of Our Culture and Ourselves (3-12)
Draw connections between Adinkra cloths of Ghana and American quilts and discover how they both are rich in symbolism and patterns of their cultures. Teachers will receive a lesson packet designed to make connections between West African and American art. At the end of the lessons, students will work with a professional artist to create their own Adinkra stamp and quilt-inspired piece. Additional $300 fee to have students artwork synthesized into art quilt for school.
Cost: $700 for up to 32 students, $230 for each additional class
Black Mountain Clay Curriculum (K-12)
Learn about ceramics and clay artists through an interdisciplinary learning experience. Teachers will receive a lesson packet designed to approach ceramics through a variety of different curriculum areas. At the end of the lessons, students will work with a professional artist to create their own clay pieces. Cost includes loan of books and DVDs about clay.
Cost: $700 for up to 32 students, $230 for each additional class
