Joy Saville's art quilts are beautiful representations of light reacting with nature. Through subtle color variation, these fabric mosaics portray the beautiful dancing movement of light. They are exquisite abstract images.
Known as a colorist, Joy Saville's work has been exhibited extensively, including the Sixth International Fiber Biennial 2008, Philadelphia; Art in Embassies Program-US Department of State in Brunei and Namibia; The All-Russia Museum of Decorative and Applied Art in Moscow, The Newark Museum, The Bristol-Myers Squibb Gallery, the Fleisher Art Memorial Challenge Exhibition (Philadelphia, PA), the Wilmington Delaware Center for Horticulture, Quilt National 1905, 1997, 1989, and 1981, and group shows in France 2003, Germany 2002, Japan 1990, 1984.
CANYON FALLS was created after a family hike in an Arizona canyon. I had been working on a public art proposal and had many color and texture samples with synthetic, metallic and sheer fabrics as well as the usual cotton, linen and silk ready for use. As I began to work with these colors and textures, the canyon falls came to mind and the work evolved.
