David Lotton
Medias Used or Areas of Interest: Glass
|
David was introduced to the art of glass making at the age of ten when his father built a glass studio in the backyard of their home. Laboring by the heat of his fathers first furnace, David persisted in the pursuit of achieving technical excellence coupled with artistic expression. Upon graduation from high school, the young artist built his own furnace and has since devoted his work-life to this craft.
Today, working out of his rural Illinois studio with the help of his wife and three children, David continues his pursuit of excellence by creating unique glass sculptures, vases, pendants and paperweights.
Davids creations are treasured by art glass collectors throughout the nation. His work is on display at many fine galleries and museums including the Corning Museum, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, the Newark Museum and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.
I try to do the best that I can. Competing with others is not the main point; it is trying to achieve the most that I was created for. I believe if you do that, no matter how good or bad it is, then you have done your best. I believe that the body of work created by me and my family is one of the best examples of how in America, even the poor can achieve excellence if they persevere.
My techniques range from paperweight encasement to applied surface decoration. They also go from typical blown to sculptural free-form. What you see is an American adaptation of old world style with a few new innovative twists.
