Emily Wolfson was born September 2, 1915 in Henderson County, Kentucky. Emily studied design at the Newcomb School of Art where she received her B.A. After spending a year in Paris studying under Fernand Leger, Wolfson earned an M.A. in Art from Louisiana State University. Wolfson taught on Murray State College's Art Department faculty in the early 1940s. She then served as director of the Evansville Art Museum and taught at Evansville College for four years. For ten years she was a member of the Indiana University faculty at Bloomington where she met and married Alfred Wolfson, a faculty member at Murray. Returning to Kentucky and Murray's art department in 1958, she retired nine years later. Under Art department head Clara Eagle, Wolfson developed the department's fiber and textiles program. Wolfson works in oils and watercolor as well as weaving. She is a charter member and past president of the Kentucky Guild of Art and Craftsmen, and was awarded the Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts and the Rude Osolnik Award. Emily Wolfson currently lives in Murray, Kentucky.
