Thematic Fieldtrip Workshops Fall ‘11 and Spring ‘12
Each year KMAC develops curriculum-based hands-on field trip workshops that are thematically connected to a current exhibit. Cost: $7.50 per student.
Yearlong: Our Permanent Collection showcases a wide variety of Kentucky art, including traditional Appalachian crafts such as ceramics, quilts, folk art, woodwork, and more. Students will create a folk art-inspired piece focusing on the use of materials, color, and patterns by folk artists.
From August—October 22nd: The Kentucky Guild 50th Anniversary Exhibition features a collection of artworks from some of Kentucky’s most prolific artists and craftsmen in the last fifty years, including glass, ceramics, furniture, paintings, quilts, and more. Students will create their own quilt-inspired fiber artwork, with a focus on the use of various materials and the historical and cultural role of quilts.
From November 5th-January 14th: Inspired by our exhibition Visions of Lewis and Clark: Kites, students will learn how to create their own kite. Themes including the science of kites and the history of Lewis and Clark will be discussed.
From February 3rd-April 14th: The exhibit Into the Mix: Caribbean Cultures in Kentucky explores the identities and artwork of Caribbean cultures. Students will create an artwork inspired by traditional Caribbean crafts and exploring personal imagery and symbols. The use of various materials and imagery in different cultures will be discussed.
