Time: 10:00 AM - 05:00 PM

Event description:

Kentucky artists such as Tom Pfannerstill, Frank Weisberg and Ron Isaacs have long been known for their uncanny knack in being able to reproduce objects in wood, clay and paint that convince the viewer that what they are seeing is actually what it appears to be. Upon closer inspection the viewer comes to understand that the skills of the artist have given an impression of a reality that does not.

Trompe L'Oeil is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted object really exists, instead of being a mere representation. The name is derived from French for 'trick the eye'; tromper - to deceive and l'oeil - the eye.

The works of the artists included in this exhibition are masterpieces of illusion, and highlight exquisite control over both materials and colors.

List of invited artists: Julie Allen, Dixie Biggs, Karen Vance Chickadel, Cynthia Consentino, Lia  Cook, Karen Dahl, Paul Dresang, David  Furman, Susan Goldstein, Fay Jean Hooker, Sylvia  Hyman, Ron  Isaacs, Gilbert Kulish, Mika Negishi Laidlaw, Johannes  Michelson, John Miller, Flo Perkins, Tom Pfannerstill, Tania Radda, Rick Shaw, Carol Shinn, Fraser Smith, Victor  Spinski, Jacques Vesery, Frank F. Weisberg

This exhibition will also feature five pieces made from culinary materials, created by students from the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at Sullivan University under the direction of Chef Derek Spendlove CEPC, CCE, AAC. The students used ingredients such as butter, marzipan, sugar, chocolate and bread to assemble these exquisite sculptures, which will be on display for the entire duration of the show.

There will be an opening reception at the Museum on Friday, February 22 from 5:00 - 7:30, which will feature gourmet refreshments prepared by Sullivan University and Juleps Catering.
